Ripples at Sydney Wharf, Pyrmont

By Noodlies, Sydney food blog guest reviewer, KLui.

How great is it to have dinner with a bunch of friends overlooking gorgeous Sydney harbour? The seats at Ripples are outdoors but well sheltered. The five of us has had everything on the winter warmers menu except the steak. Let me take you through our food journey at Ripples...

Yamba prawn tart
Yamba prawn tart with creamed leek, feta cheese and tomato salsa: sensational short crust pastry! It tastes like very fine slices of shortbread underneath a yummy creamy mix with prawns on top.

Seared scallops
Seared scallops with pumpkin tortellini, boudin noir and goat cheese sauce: the big fat scallops were so fresh and soft. The Boudin Noir (French blood sausage) was diced and great with a sip of red wine! The tortellini would be even better if the pasta was softer.

Salmo
Salmon belly with spanner crab brandade, warm pancetta and sprout salad, lemon butter: the fish was 40% cooked, leaving the fish with a soft texture. Great for fish lovers!

Crusted lamb
Olive crusted lamb shoulder with potato and thyme rosti, provence style vegetables, black olive jus: the olive crust was so nice with its crunchy top and soft centre. The lamb shoulder was so tender with a fine layer of fat in the middle. So perfect with a glass of red wine.

Lobster mornay
Lobster mornay with garlic crumbs and coleslaw: a well balanced mornay with a mild cheese taste that doesn’t mask the lobster. The garlic crumbs added an extra layer of texture.

Desserts...

Burnt lemon tart, lemon curd bombe alaska and macadamia toffee: this was my favourite! Love the way they were not dominated by the sourness of lemon but still zesty in flavour! The macadamia toffee was very nice too!

Chocolate assiette, chocolate fondant, bitter chocolate raspberry tart, jaffa, chocolate mousse: the frizz from the assiette works so well with the rich and creamy mousse! The dark chocolate fondant was nice but I would love it even more if it was runnier in the centre.

  3. I've heard some nice things about Ripples - looks like you've had a good feed here.

Ok, I'm not sure about the chocolate skid mark that seems to be in fashion now :D

  4. re Foodwink: I think chocolate skid mark was meant to be a statement, but since everyone is doing it now.... it makes it a 'general' statement. :P
