Pino's Ristorante Pizzeria, Italian, Crows Nest
Pino's has been around since 1973 so I guess, this Italian restaurant must be doing it right. They reckon it's because they make pasta and sauces are made fresh on the premises. Tonight I'm at a work function and we've gone for a very generous 3 course set menu.
Not surprisingly we start with the antipasto plate, the prosciutto is worth a mention, it's thin and full of flavour and the eggplant is crunchy, different to what I'm used to.
What follows is a generous supply of pasta and pizza. Spaghetti bolognese was honest, hearty and tasty.
Rigatoni pasta with "house made" pesto: very rich and very tasty.
Fettuccine Capriciosa was probably my favourite dish of the evening. It's a seafood affair with king prawns, calamari, clams in a creamy tomato paste that was laced with garlic and sprinkled with parmesan cheese.
We were also spoilt for choice with a selection of meat and vegetarian pizzas. The pizzas were thin and tasty, but by this stage, my stomach had had enough. Even the very fresh Italian mixed salad couldn't cut the richness by this stage.
Italian food is all about generosity, richness, bright colours and strong flavours. It's about the joy of eating and sharing with family and friends, an experience that is joyous and noisy. Pino's embodies all of that... and more.. I'm sooo full.

ReplyDeletefunny thing is i went to an Italian resturant for work at Lechiart, and their entrees where like mains opposed to there mains. haha.
I used to go here quite a bit when I lived on the north shore for their gelato...their pistachio was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteThey seemed to be pretty popular MelbaToast, but I find it hard to really enjoy a banguet style meal when there's so much food.
ReplyDeleteBut I guess that's the wonderful thing with a generous culture like the Italians!
Looks lovely. You have me intrigued with the crunchy eggplant.

ReplyDeleteWhoa - what a massive serving of spag bol! Agreed that the fettucine looks great, but I'm not a fan of creamy pesto sauces - just too rich.
ReplyDeleteHey lateraleating, i'm really no expert at italian food, but i've never had crunchy eggplant.. they've always been tender, some to the point of being (over) mushy
ReplyDeleteHi Tina, agreed with you about pesto... i find italian food dangerous, it's rich and i eat a lot of it!
