Super Dish is a new restaurant in Cabramatta and it's not Vietnamese. We're seeing more and more non-Vietnamese restaurants opening in the area recently including, Yummi Thai, Red Sichuan Chinese, Dai Jang Gum, Malaysian House (now closed) to name a few.
I'm guessing the second generation Vietnamese aren't interested in the 7 days restaurant business. And the void is being filled by others attracted by the sheer number of people who flock to Cabramatta, especially on weekends.
Super Dish is Chinese (Canto) style fare, the sort of restaurant you see in Chinatown, it's no accident they all have similar names like Supermeal and Superbowl. It hasn't been open that long... and you can see from the video above, the crowds flock to anything new.
The servings were generous, the fried beef noodles looks as good as it tastes, great strong flavours.
I had to order egg noodles, surely a good Canto eatery should do good noodles. I'm not sure why I doubted it, the soup was top class and really does remind me of Hong Kong noodles, much stronger flavours. The noodles strong kinda crunchy, just the way I like them. The bbq duck was a tad disappointing, it wasn't bad, but the skin didn't hold much flavour.
Originally the waiter came back with fried egg noodles instead of the soup noodles which I ordered. I was pleasantly surprised that they took it back without any awkwardness or stroppiness... full marks there!

It's interesting how many suburbs/areas that were once know for only one type of food are changing it up...do you think it's good or bad?
ReplyDeleteReally good points, look at Burwood and Campsie.. the mind boggles with the range of food available there.. and it seems like Cabramatta will head that way... I'm ok with it... but the thing that has people a bit divided is the 'mainstream' fast food places like dominos, eagle boys and Gloria Jeans opening in Cabramatta.. I struggle more with that!
ReplyDeleteI see your point about the mainstream 'powerhouses' breaking in; suburbs like Cabramatta are fondly looked upon because of their slight roughness and the organic nature of the ethnic melting point. Places like Gloria Jeans seem to tarnish that a tad. Too polished, less sincere. It's a pity but seems to be happening just about everywhere. If not yet, then in time.

ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with you Jenny... it's really only a matter of time.. though having said that, areas like Leichhardt seem to be able to keep the chains out... I just fear Cabramatta will not
ReplyDeleteThe egg noodles do look good, but too bad about the duck. The same has happened to Footscray in terms of how it has evolved over the years.
ReplyDeleteI still remember when there mainly Vietnamese eateries to now where it has literally become a multicultural hub- from african, Chinese, Japanese (non authentic of course LOL) etc... I guess it's a good thing with an abundance of choice in my new hood. I can't complain! :)
Hey Adrian, I love Footscray, always make a point to get there when in melb, but bad me have not yet tried the range of African food there... though have been naughty enough to try the doughnuts at the station!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely mouth-watering! And the fact that they took the initiative to replace the soup noodles with what you exactly ordered is definitely a plus for me. Customer service does count!

I don't think they have a website Jayson... most restaurants in Cabra don't... although you can safely assume they'll have most Canto-type dishes on the menu.
