Bun bo hue is a fearsome, authentic and uncompromising Vietnamese soup. It demands more and it gives more. Where you would appreciate the subtle sweetness of Pho, you're whacked in the face with chili and lemongrass, as well as a congealed blood cube and a pig trotter or two.
Check out the video to get the full description of what you get in a bowl of bun bo hue and how to eat it. The size of the bowls here are huge, so make sure you tell them you want a smaller size if you're not such a big eater.
One of the things I love most is the salad you get on the side. Many different types of mint, bean sprouts, lettuce - it just has such great colour and freshness.
It's all amazing value with free tea (of course!) at $9 a bowl.
Dong Ba in Cabramatta is the second shop, the original is the amazingly successful Dong Ba, in Park Road, also in Cabramatta. Both places do amazingly good trade. There's also a Dong Ba in Bankstown.

great review... the video looked mouth watering...
ReplyDeletei've never been to the cabra store.... but i've been to the bankstown one on numerous occasions... and ordered the pho..... they make it quite good.... they make the soup nice... and... yeah.... i also remember.... their prices are pretty good.... good value
lol... and for the people who cringe at the thought... or sight... of congealed blood.... haha.... it's really not that bad..... just think that you're eating tofu...... it's like eating firm tofu..... when it's made well..... it can be quite tasty!!!!
Haven't had this before, but it looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteHey Aust politics.. you have to try bun bo hue next!
ReplyDeleteI loved it the first time I tried it, and then when I had some at Dong Ba, I was blown away!
ReplyDeleteyum, im craving bun hue!
ReplyDeleteits just the erfect weather too.. ive also tried bun bo hue at Gia Hoi pretty decent :)
Yep both Dong Ba and Gia Hoi are pretty good, as well as Pho Lam in Canley Heights, I know they're meant to specialise in Pho, but the bun bo hue is pretty up there
ReplyDelete@thang yeah... definitely will... $9 for all that... plus tea to drink.... is a fantastic price nowadays... when things seem to get more expensive all the time....
