Crazy Wings, Chatswood

I've been raving about Crazy Wings in Chinatown, to just about anybody I knew.  And all the friends who have taken up the recommendation have been delighted (phew!).  Since December, Crazy Wings have opened a second restaurant and it's in Chatswood.  Noodlies Sydney food blog decided it was time for a second visit...

Crazy Wings Chatswood is located in the popular new-ish Eat Street precinct, and it's much bigger and grander than the Chinatown sibling. The decor is imperial Chinese, with a lot of rustic wood.  Crazy Wings is a celebration of Chinese street food, single skewers that you order and eat quickly.

Progressive Dinner: Eat Street, Chatswood Central

chatswood central

Eat Street is a new restaurant precinct that's part of the new Chatswood Central station development, it boasts new high profile eateries like Mamak, Crazy Wings and Bavarian Bier Cafe to established fine dining establishments like Rocket Restaurant, that's been there for almost a decade.

According to Rocket owner, Peter the area has never been so busy.   Noodlies Sydney food blog was invited to sample Eat Street on a Friday night with a progressive dinner tour.  It was an immensely enjoyable four hours that took in three delicious, contrasting courses:

Bavarian Bier Cafe, Eat Street, Chatswood Central

It's Oktoberfest every day at Bavarian Bier Cafe where the girls are busty, the boys and brawny and the beer (or should I say bier) abound.

It's 6pm on a Friday night, the first stage of noodlies Sydney food blog's progressive dinner through Eat Street, Chatswood Central begins... course one: entree.

Ask the staff what to try and they'll suggest the rack of pretzel with butter.  Everyone tells me pretzels are better for you.  I don't care, they're delicious and even more so with butter.

But it's a bier cafe so we had to sample, it was a case of Hofbrau Original for him and of course, the Ladies Bier for her, in this case passion fruit flavour and served in a glass.  My beer was cold, crisp and came with a nice head.  She's not a fan of beer but enjoyed the passion fruit flavour.

And it's not in the Bavarian spirit to enjoy your beer without meat, and a lot of it.. so we had to order the Bavarian Antipasto platter.  I loved the prosciutto but actually was amazed at the range and size of the plate for less than $20.

We too a little detour from Bavaria and ordered the Pissaladiere with Crystal Bay prawns, it's a pizza-ish dish that originated in France and is my favourite dish during this stop of the progressive dinner.  The salad was fresh, dressing light but tasty and the base had so much flavour, perfect with beer!

Bavarian Bier Cafe was a perfect start of a Friday night, we needed to unwind after a loooong week with a couple of drinks and some good conversation... now we're ready for mains at Izakaya Arigato...

Izakaya Arigato Japanese, Eat Street, Chatswood Central

The next stop on our Eat Street progressive eating tour takes us to Japan.  Izakaya Arigato is an intimate Japanese eatery that fills up quickly during our visit.  Calligraphy, wood cuts, tea pots abound and creating a lovely setting.

The Udon Tempura set was pretty reasonably priced, and presented beautifully.  The tempura batter was a tad too thick for my tastes and in particular, the sweet potato a little under cooked.  Udon noodle was fresh and strong, lovely broth which was more on the salty than sweet side.

The highlight for me was the Unagi Teppan which looked stunning as it glistened in the cast iron pan.  The eel had great texture and perfectly cooked.  I loved the ever-so-tasty sauce which was divine with rice.

The green tea soju was an unusual but very pleasant drink and kind of green tea shake.
