Vietnamese Pork Roll Cabramatta: Viet Hoa

Banh mi thit - Vietnamese pork roll: school kids munch on them, footballers are spotted grabbing one for a snack, old people chew slowly and carefully (the crisp bread rolls don't mix easily with dentures).  Even food bloggers love them, Marrickville, Mascot, you can get them just about anywhere in Sydney.

Are they the ultimate in fusion? French influence in crispy, crunchy bread, pate, mayo combined with Vietnamese ingredients, meat, chilli and fish sauce or maggi.

Last night, I bought two pork rolls in Cabramatta at Viet Hoa hot bread shop for dinner.  I reckon they sell one of the best pork rolls in Sydney.  I love Viet Hoa because they're open late, I've driven past at midnight and they're still serving customers.  And it seems like the same old lady is there 24 hours, which means the rolls are made consistently good!

Watch the video and see my banh mi thit being made. Fresh bread, pate, mayo, three types of meat, vegetables and chill and sauce.

I remember when they were $1.50 (many, many years ago)... last night they were $4.. it's still pretty good value, what sort of sandwich would you get for $4 these days.  Pork rolls use fresh bread, 10 different ingredients and made to order, can't argue with that!

noodlies Sydney food blogs loves a good banh mi thit!

Marrickville Banh Mi Thit (Vietnamese Pork Rolls)

By Noodlies Sydney food blog guest reviewer, KLui.

I was passing by this tiny little shop (literally a hole in the wall) and didn't expect much, but it was surprisingly great!

This place only offers Vietnamese style bread rolls. The menu is simple - pork roll, BBQ pork roll, chicken roll, tuna roll, pork skin roll, meatball roll and salad roll!

I specifically loved their pork roll because of the amazing homemade pate that it came with! It'd even be better when the bread has just come straight out of the oven!

Look! The size is huge especially for it's price!

The place must be ok, it's even listed on Urbanspoon.

Pate So: Vietnamese meat pie

Next time you're at the local Vietnamese hot bread shot and you're thinking of a viet pork roll, why not try viet meat pie (well kind of like a meat pie).

In Vietnamese we call it Pate So (or pate chaud), it's just layers of puff pastry, watch out, heaps of fat and butter, wrapped around spicy pork mince.  Utterly delicious hot.  Not bad for $1.50.

We had a big late breakfast this morning, so a pate so each was perfect!

Vietnamese Pork Roll (Banh Mi Thit)

Footballers have been spotted eating them... Cabra school kids have munched on them... old ladies have eaten them on the train... Mimi my dog is always looking for left overs of them...  Banh Mi Thit, more commonly known as Vietnamese Pork Rolls are THE delicious fast food in Cabramatta.

And like most fast food, I don't recommend you eat it regularly.  It's the multiple types of meat, pate, butter that make them delicious and fattening!

Oh and if you wan't to try something tasty but not as filling, try pate so.. vietnamese meat pies... also available at your local hot bread shop.
